This raises concerns about the phone’s durability, as the device has just started reaching customers.

Reports shared on Reddit and the MacRumors discussion boards indicate that certain iPhone Duo models have developed fissures along the central crease. In multiple instances, this damage also resulted in a distinct bright line of pixels appearing on one side of the display.

An owner from Australia mentioned that the screen fractured after fewer than 20 openings, noting a cracking sound during the phone’s opening process. The display subsequently malfunctioned, even though there was no visible damage to its surface or the external hinge mechanism.

Determining if this represents a widespread issue remains premature, as additional images of damaged iPhone Duo units have surfaced online, including pictures of demonstration models in China. However, details about many incidents are unclear, and accidental damage cannot be excluded.

Some reviewers subjected the phone to repeated opening and closing tests, observing no screen issues in those scenarios. Nevertheless, these assessments involved only a small number of devices and do not conclusively establish that all units are immune to such failures.

Given that the iPhone Duo has only recently reached a broader customer base, it will require time to gauge the frequency of these incidents.

A typical hinge malfunction caused by a manufacturing defect should be addressed under the phone’s one-year warranty. Customers also benefit from a two-week return period, as noted by MacRumors. At this stage, these early reports serve as a cautionary notice rather than definitive evidence of a significant design flaw.
