Salesforce Inc. introduced the Enterprise AI Harness and the AI Control Plane to help customers build and manage artificial intelligence agents. Developers create agents by extending large language models with add-ons like prompts and database connectors. The company defines these technical assets as a harness, a collection of tools designed to improve reliability and security.
Building a Foundation for Agents
The Enterprise AI Harness gathers technologies that are already part of Salesforce cloud services, with the rest set to roll out early in the company’s 2028 fiscal year, which begins next February. The platform groups these features into six main collections, with half focused on the business data agents use to operate.
The first collection, called Trusted Context, gathers data assets such as customer records and product availability. Salesforce plans to add support for “real-time signals,” which are buyer actions that require companies to adjust outreach efforts quickly. Another set of features focuses on data accuracy, providing information quality controls like a data lineage tool. Cybersecurity teams will also gain the ability to regulate which agent can access specific datasets and how they are used.
Managing Costs and Reliability
Companies often use multiple language models in a single project to balance cost and performance. A frontier model handles complex tasks, while simpler agents send requests to a smaller, cheaper model. The Enterprise AI Harness includes an “intelligent model routing” mechanism to automate this process. It sends agent requests to the most suitable large language model based on accuracy and cost.

Large language models are nondeterministic, meaning the same prompt can produce different answers each time. The new harness will let customers pair agents with deterministic reliability controls. It also simplifies connecting agents to external applications. This structure mirrors how other cloud providers handle multi-model environments, relying on automation to balance performance metrics against budget constraints rather than manual configuration.
Centralized Oversight
The second offering, the AI Control Plane, aims to give administrators centralized oversight. It will monitor agent performance and track inference costs. The platform also enforces cybersecurity policies to ensure agents follow company rules.
“Models will continue to change, and intelligence will increasingly be available everywhere,” said Rohan Kumar, Salesforce’s president and chief platform and engineering officer. “What will differentiate an enterprise is the trusted, proprietary context it brings to that intelligence — starting with the customer — and its ability to securely turn that context into action. That’s what we’re building with Salesforce’s Enterprise AI Harness.”
